A nice summer trip to the beaches of Amity Island goes bad fast as a giant white shark begins munching on errant swimmers. Local police chief Roy Scheider works with a slightly crazed fisherman and a wealthy, self-funded oceanographer to save lives and the town’s economy.

Prior to the huge box office success of this exciting film, movie studios were loath to release ‘good’ movies during the summer, figuring that most people would be on vacation or napping in the hammock. Alas, Jaws, the first major film directed by Steven Spielberg, pushed all that aside with its often believable story, superb acting, and a giant shark nicknamed ‘Bruce’ – changing forever how Hollywood made movies. - JB
